On Thursday 16 April, the Princess of Orange visited Amsterdam Science Park as part of an introductory tour of Amsterdam, at the invitation of Mayor Femke Halsema. The visit focused on Amsterdam as a tech city, with special attention to AI and sustainable solar energy, two fields in which Amsterdam Science Park based researchers and companies are playing a leading role.
The Princess of Orange was introduced to LAB42, the international hub for talent development in digital innovation. There, she and the Mayor visited the Intelligent Robotics Lab, where professor Cees Snoek (Intelligent Sensory Information Systems, UvA) took them through an AI Experience demonstrating how AI can be deployed to benefit society. The programme continued at SustainaLab, where a roundtable with scientists brought together perspectives on today’s and tomorrow’s technological challenges.
At Amsterdam Science Park, researchers, students and entrepreneurs work together on solutions to society’s long-term technological challenges. The tour concluded at the AMOLF research institute, where scientists conduct fundamental research into new materials in close collaboration with industry. A demonstration by SolarNL highlighted work on sustainable solar energy showing how research carried out at Amsterdam Science Park translates into real-world impact.
