One of the newest residents of Lab42 at Amsterdam Science Park, CuspAI, has secured an impressive $100 million Series A investment round. This milestone underscores both the international potential of the British-Dutch startup and the strength of Amsterdam’s deeptech ecosystem.
CuspAI aims to radically accelerate the discovery of new, sustainable materials using AI. Their platform works as a kind of “search engine for materials”: users define desired properties (such as “CO₂-capturing” or “ultra-fast conducting”), and the AI suggests synthesizable molecular structures.
“Our mission is simple: Use AI to design materials that tackle humanity’s greatest challenges — starting with climate change,” the team stated in their LinkedIn announcement
The round was co-led by NEA and Temasek, with participation from Nvidia’s NVentures, Samsung Ventures, Hyundai, and Dutch investor Prosus Ventures. A number of prominent angel investors also joined, including founders from OpenAI, Hugging Face, and Synthesia.
Co-founder Prof. Max Welling (UvA) emphasizes that now is the time to apply AI not just to digital problems, but to physical challenges—especially in material science and climate solutions.
While CuspAI is headquartered in Cambridge (UK), part of its team operates out of Lab42, located at Amsterdam Science Park. This strategic presence highlights the park’s appeal as an international hub for AI, deeptech, and sustainability.
