Urban Campsite at Amsterdam Science Park

In June, July and August, the extraordinary travelling art campsite UrbanCampsite makes its home at the equally remarkable yet (for many) below-the-radar location of Amsterdam Science Park.

UrbanCampsite hopes to connect the widest possible audience with Amsterdam Science Park, changing visitors’ experiences, images of, and attitudes towards the place. UrbanCampsite aims to do this through an open-air exhibition of artworks and special places to stay, plus a theme that matches the location. In a high-tech environment among scientists and students, UrbanCampsite will construct an exhibition and temporary ‘mini-society’, focusing on the theme The Art of Tech Living and bringing together art, design, architecture, innovation and science. The goal is to create an environment where visitors can experience how technology can enrich and sustain our lives.

Unique overnight stays

UrbanCampsite offers its guests all the amenities of a normal campsite and more. UrbanCampsite wants visitors to experience both the location, and the world of art, design and architecture, in a totally new way. UrbanCampsite is an exhibition that you have to experience. New worlds and perspectives open up where you never expected them. The installations reinforce this effect: because you can sleep them, the distance between you and the art is eradicated. In total, there will be 14 creations – all of which you can sleep in – from 14 different artists, designers and architects, plus a bathhouse from Overtreders W to add to the intensity of the experience. It’s a rare opportunity to inhabit works by artists, designers and architects such as Joep van Lieshout, Robbert van der Horst, Rob Sweere and Wouter Valkenier – all of whom join in UrbanCampsite’s theme of the Art of Tech Living.
