Qualcomm takes over Scyfer

Chip manufacturer Qualcomm Technologies announced that they take over the artificial intelligence specialist company Scyfer. This is evidenced by a press release published by Qualcomm, the parent company of Qualcomm Technologies, today.

Scyfer was established about four years ago at Amsterdam Science Park as a spinoff of the University of Amsterdam. The company works with the latest and most advanced technologies in the field of deep learning.  Founder and CEO of Scyfer is Max Welling, professor of Machine Learning at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Informatics at the University of Amsterdam. He is also employed at the University of California Irvine, the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR).

Qualcomm is very interested in the scientists and companies at the Amsterdam Science Park. Previously, the Americans already bought Euvision. The software of this company can analyse and categorize photos. In addition, Qualcomm, together with the University of Amsterdam, founded a research laboratory in self-learning machines at the Sciencepark, the QUVA Lab.

Amsterdam Science Park is known for its excellent IT climate in terms of world class education, top notch research, innovative business and state-of-the-art infrastructure.
