Self building and development
Amsterdam Science Park offers entrepreneurs the space to build their businesses or to have their own developers do this for them. Plots of every possible size are available and the recently adopted zoning plan (2013) means that permits can be obtained quickly.
Amsterdam Science Park has a selection procedure for the establishment of companies at the site, aimed at safeguarding the conditions for a business location and the character of the Science Park. These conditions are laid down in the ground leases.
Most of the land at Amsterdam Science Park is owned by the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), which lease it out to builders and developers. The UvA uses ground lease conditions that are based on the Municipality of Amsterdam's General Terms and Conditions for Perpetual Ground Leases 2000 for this purpose. One of the conditions the UvA sets is that leases must be for a period of 50 years.
The land prices set by the Municipal Executive for all locations in Amsterdam also apply to Amsterdam Science Park and depend on the designated use and size (m²) of the plot.
