Water quality in Dutch lakes and waterways is under increasing pressure. Harmful blooms of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and pathogenic bacteria pose growing risks to swimming water, drinking water supplies and public health — particularly in summer.
This edition of SustainaLab Talks brings together researchers, water managers and innovators to explore strategies for preventing and controlling harmful blooms, and to discuss the collaborations and entrepreneurial initiatives needed for sustainable solutions.

Frodo van Oostveen (World Waternet) addresses swimmable cities from the perspective of urban water management. Petra Visser (University of Amsterdam, IBED) presents the latest science on cyanobacterial blooms and their toxins. Paul van der Wielen (KWR Water Research Institute / Radboud University) speaks on microbial ecology and the safety of recreational waters. Moderation by Prof. Jef Huisman (University of Amsterdam).
The event is free to attend and open to water managers, policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs and students.
