Autonomous Matter Symposium 2026

What separates living matter from engineered systems — and can that boundary be dissolved? AMOLF hosts “Defining Autonomous Matter”, a one-day symposium bringing together researchers from physics, biology, chemistry, robotics and engineering.

The programme explores how matter can be designed to sense, decide and act without external control. Speakers include scientists from UC Berkeley, KU Leuven, the Hubrecht Institute and the Max Planck Center.
